Indiana Replaces Deputy Treasurer

After just a year in the Indiana State Treasury’s management division, Steve Midkiff, state deputy treasurer and portfolio manager, has called it quits.

In a statement today, state Treasurer Richard Mourdock announced Midkiff’s retirement and a replacement for the position. Mike Frick, a previous employee of the state Auditor’s Office, is slated to take over the lead investment role.

Back in January 2009, Midkiff, the 30-year institutional and organization investment veteran, was tapped for the role. Prior to his Treasury post, Midkiff’s served as executive director for the Indiana Coalition on Housing and Homeless Issues for two years.

Christopher Conner, spokeman for the Treasury office, told IMW today that Frick officially settled into his new position Monday. Midkiff’s retirement took effect Jan. 8.

“Steve has been an invaluable asset to the Treasurer of State’s Office, particularly during the challenging economic times of this past calendar year,” Mourdouck said in the statement. “I want to publicly thank him for his service and dedication, and I wish him nothing but the best during retirement.”

Mourdock went onto say that his administration is “very fortunate” that Midkiff’s replacement “literally worked next-door to our office.” Previously, Frick had more than 15 years of investment experience in the Treasurer’s office, he said.
