Pennsylvania Municipal Selects New Leader
September 20, 2013
For the first time in nearly 30-years, the $1.7 billion Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System (PMRS) Board has chosen a new leader.
James Allen, current secretary, confirmed that the trustees selected Brian LaForme, previously an executive assistant to the Secretary of Education in the Commonwealth.
Prior to his state Education Department position, LaForme worked in the Pennsylvania State Treasury’s office, helping with the Short-Term Investment Trust Fund, and at PFM, an independent firm offers financial advice to local, state, and regional governments.
Earlier this year, Allen announced his retirement. He was first hired as the Harrisburg, Pa.-based plans secretary in 1984.
LaForme’s appointment is subject to a complete background check before it is official, Allen explained, while noting that he could be in place as soon as next month.
It is likely that Allen will assist with the transition, but his tenure will officially end April 2014.
